Joann stores start going-out-of-business sales as company shutters 500 locations

Fabrics retailer Joann has started going-out-of-business sales at some locations after filing for bankruptcy and announcing the closure of hundreds of stores.

The retailer known for selling fabrics and crafts for the last 82 years is closing about 500 of its roughly 850 locations across the United States. The news comes after the company filed for bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year.

According to the company, it received court approval for the restructuring plan on Friday. It now says clearance sales at the locations set to close are now underway and "could continue for several months.'

"The remainder of our stores are not impacted by this motion, and will remain open as usual, as will joann.com,” the company said in a statement.
