GM recalls over 132,000 Chevrolet, GMC trucks over tailgate issue: See affected models

General Motors is recalling over 132,000 trucks equipped with power-unlatching tailgates, the National Highway Traffic Safety said Tuesday.

The recall is due to the tailgate's electronic gate-release switch potentially short circuiting due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in park, according to the NHTSA recall notice.

The recall affects certain vehicles with power-unlatching tailgates in the following models:

  • 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500
  • 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 3500
  • 2024 GMC Sierra HD 2500
  • 2024 GMC Sierra HD 3500

Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving, according to the NHTSA.
