In the NHTSA report, the automobile company said that the incorrect bumper reverse light assembly may have been installed.

In addition, the report said that these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Incorrect reverse lights could reduce a driver’s visibility and not alert when objects are near the vehicle when it is backing up, the report said. The report said this can increase the risk of a crash.

To fix the issue, dealers will inspect and replace the bumper reverse light assembly, as necessary, the report said. All services for this recall will be completed free of charge. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Jan. 30, 2025. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is D7B.

PACCAR recalls trucks for safety system issue

PACCAR is recalling over 220,000 of its 2021-2025 Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks.

The commercial truck manufacturer is recalling 220,972 of its trucks for a loss of anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and electronic stability control. In the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall report PACCAR said the electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the Electronic Control Units (ECU) to not process commands correctly and stop functioning.

The report said that safety systems that depend on the ECU that does not function properly or at all will increase the risk of a crash.

Some of the safety systems are:

  • Automatic Traction Control
  • Anti-lock braking systems
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Active Cruise Control
  • Collision Mitigation System

PACCAR dealers will reprogram the ECU software for free, according to the NHTSA recall report. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent by Feb. 7, 2025. Owners may contact Kenworth's customer service at 1-425-828-5888 and Peterbilt's customer service at 1-940-591-4220. PACCAR's numbers for this recall are 24KWL and 24PBL.
