Thousands of space heaters sold on Amazon recalled for concerns over electric shock, fire
A space heater sold on Amazon is being recalled due to the potential to cause an "electric shock," resulting in a fire hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Thursday.
The about 7,780 recalled products are Vornado VH2 Whole Room Heaters with “JUL24” or “AUG24” date codes and “TYPE VH2” printed on the silver rating label on the underside of the heater, the government agency said.
The heaters are off-white and have thermostatic temperature control, automatic orcontinuous fan operation and two heat settings. "Vornado" with a red "V" behind it is printed on the front of the unit. Only units with a "JUL24" or "AUG24” date codes are included in this recall, the CPSC said.
The device's power cord can partially detach from the heater enclosure, according to the CPSC, which can lead to cord damage over time and pose shock and fire hazards.

When and where were the recalled heaters sold?
The heater was sold online in the U.S. at Amazon.com from August 2024 through October 2024 for about $90. They were manufactured by Vornado Air LLC in Andover, Kansas.
What should consumers do now?
The CPSC recommends consumers immediately stop using the recalled devices and contact Vornado to confirm that their heater is part of the recall. From there, the company should give instructions on how to receive a free replacement heater, the agency said.
