Progresso Soup Drops sell out soup-er fast: When more of the hard candy will drop

Progresso unveiled a new, innovative way for soup lovers to satisfy their taste buds last week, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.

The soup company last Thursday announced the launch of Soup Drops, a chicken noodle soup-flavored hard candy drop that resembles a cough drop. The first batch sold out in under an hour, the company confirmed to USA TODAY in an emailed statement Tuesday. The company also announced the news on Instagram last Thursday.

"Well this is souper awkward... our Soup Drops sold out before we had the chance to tell you," the caption on the Instagram post reads. "But don't worry, there's a fresh batch of Soup You Can Suck On coming your way next Thursday, 1/23 at 9AM ET at ProgressoSoupDrops.com!"

Progresso told USA TODAY there will be additional drops released weekly, every Thursday through the rest of January, while supplies last.

'Soup you can suck on': What are the ingredients?

The drops, being tabbed by Progresso as "soup you can suck on," taste like broth, savory veggies, soft egg noodles, and a hint of parsley, according to the company.

The drops are packaged in a can that looks like a regular Progresso soup can with 20 individually wrapped candies in each can. Each order also comes with a can of actual Progresso Traditional Chicken Noodle Soup, all for $2.49 plus shipping, according to Progresso.

"When you’re sick, nothing is truly more reassuring than Chicken Noodle Soup. So, we thought, why stop at the soup bowl? We took the beloved flavors of our Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup and packed them into a fun, savory candy Soup Drop for a totally new way to enjoy the taste you love whenever and wherever you want,” said MC Comings, VP, Business Unit Director for Progresso at General Mills, in a news release last week.
